Dr. Shillingford is a general surgeon who specializes in advanced laparoscopic and obesity surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of General Surgery. He keeps himself up-to-date with the latest advances in surgical techniques by attending multiple scientific conferences and attending training programs to learn and implement new and improved techniques and methods to provide the best care for his patients. Not only does he practice weight loss surgery but he practices general surgery as well. He is well versed in various surgical procedures such as gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), hernia repairs and colorectal procedures.
Dr. Shillingford believes that better patient education is the key to the best outcomes. Individual patients are educated about the associated benefits and risks of each surgical procedure, and will be suggested the best procedure that suits that individual. Most importantly, Dr. Shillingford takes the time to listen to each patient’s history, concerns and hopes and takes his time to answer questions and offer support both to the patient and their family.
Dr. Priti Kothari serves as a consulting psychiatrist to Dr. Shillingford’s practice and aides in both evaluation and support to patients as needed. She helps patients with psychiatric emotional pre and post operational support for bariatric weight loss surgery. Dr. Kothari strives to be educated and informed of cutting-edge issues around obesity and mental health.
Susan Peacock, a Registered Dietitian, works with Dr. Shillingford and provides pre-surgery consultation as per insurance guidelines, to prepare patients with the tools for a successful outcome. She will guide the patient to set the needed behavioral goals even before the surgery, so that the patient understands and establishes these behaviors as part of the postoperative long-term results.
Dr. Tracey Kriegstein, a psychologist, is a key and integral team member who aids in support groups that target behavioral and emotional support for patients both pre and post operatively with weight loss surgery.
Our office manager is in charge of coordinating the preoperative workup, including care provided by the consultants and obtaining approval for surgery, scheduling surgery and all postoperative appointments.
